Bolt, formerly Taxify, who is back to bet on this service in the Algarve’s capital.

In total, 200 scooters will be distributed, equipped with GPS locators, which will allow them to be viewed on the app’s map, where locations are indicated for collection and delivery.

In a press release, Bolt says that “in the first months of launch, to encourage people who live and visit Faro to try the new mobility service, the unlocking of Bolt’s scooters will be 1 euro and the cost of the trip 15 cents per minute, with a maximum charge of 19 euros per day”.

“With the safety of users in mind, the maximum speed allowed will be 25 kilometres per hour. However, for the first trips to take place in a more controlled way, the “beginner” mode will allow them to limit, through the application, the maximum speed of their trip to 15 kilometres/hour ”, the company adds.

David Ferreira da Silva, head of Bolt in Portugal, explains that “Bolt’s mission is to help people move around cities more easily and quickly, and electric scooters appear as an alternative to cars for short distances”.

“We want this service to be a safe option and, therefore, we offer speed control features. In collaboration with Faro Council, we are creating the best practices for the conscious use of electric scooters, with the aim of betting on sustainable micro-mobility and improving circulation in the city, at the same time that we contribute to its decarbonisation”, he adds.

To use the new electric scooter service, simply download the Bolt application on an iOS or Android device such as a phone or tablet, create an account, and enter a payment method
