Three vaccination centres have been set up in Olhão, Lagoa and Faro and will open once Portugal’s second stage of vaccinations begins.

Olhão’s vaccination centre is based at the headquarters of local sports club ‘Os Olhanenses’.

Says Olhão council, the vaccination centre was set up in “record time” with the help of ACES health centre group and ARS Algarve health authority and will be able to vaccinate at least 400 people per day, with room to double capacity if needed.

On Wednesday (April 7), Olhão Mayor António Pina visited the vaccination centre which he said was created so that the “population of Olhão can be vaccinated as quickly as possible”.

Pina also urged local citizens to “not miss out on the opportunity of being vaccinated when they are called”.

“What’s important is that the vaccines arrive. It is fundamental for our community that we all get the vaccine. We are doing all we can to ensure the vaccination process goes as quickly and smoothly as possible,” he said.

Just a few days later, Lagoa and Faro announced the opening of their own vaccination centres.

In Lagoa, the vaccination centre is located near the local auditorium and has already received a ‘thumbs up’ from health authorities and is ready to open as soon as Portugal’s second stage of vaccinations begin.

Said the council, it is equipped to vaccinate around 40 people per hour.

“The local council has covered all the costs of setting up the vaccination centre and has honoured the commitment it made so that the people of Lagoa can be vaccinated quickly and safely,” it said.

Meanwhile in Faro, the vaccination hub is based inside the municipal pavilion of Penha. It was set up throughout the last couple of weeks and will be able to vaccinate around 600 people per day, according to the local council.
